William (Bill) Bulloch, P.E., D.WRE, is a principal and co-founder of Utility Revenue Management (URM), the nation’s leading revenue enhancement firm providing services to public and private water and wastewater utilities throughout the United States over the last 18 years.  Bill has previously held leadership positions with the City of Houston -- as an Assistant Director of the Public Works and Engineering Department managing the city’s water system and customer service operation, and the City of Austin -- as Director of the Water and Wastewater and Emergency Medical Services Departments and as Assistant Director of the Urban Transportation Department in charge of transportation planning.  He also held the position of Senior Vice President in charge of land management for Nash Phillips/Copus, a leading builder/developer in Texas during the 1980s.  Mr. Bulloch holds Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.

 

 

 

Cora Guinn Robinson

Cora Guinn Robinson is an Advanced Diversity Consultant in the Corporate Development and Diversity Department at Marathon. In this position, she serves as diversity consultant to six business organizations including: Strategic Planning; Law; Corporate Compliance; HR; Investor Relations and Public Affairs as well as Finance and Accounting. Cora serves as practice leader for the Marathon Mentoring Program and Corporate Development.

Prior to joining Marathon, she was Senior Manger of Diversity for SYSCO Corporation; and Managing Director of INROADS/Houston, an international career development and placement organization for talented minority, college students.

Cora is a Journalism graduate of Texas Tech University and is married to Judson Robinson, CEO of the Houston Area Urban League, they have three children.

George Greanias

President & CEO

METRO

 

George Greanias has had a long and varied professional career in the private and public sector. Since May 2010, he has served as Houston METRO’s Acting President & CEO, overseeing a public transit agency with 3,500 employees and a $1.3 billion annual budget. In his short time at the helm, George has already established an ambitious agenda that includes finishing the build out of Houston’s light-rail system, improving customer service and making METRO more transparent to the public it serves. Prior to joining METRO, George served as a partner at CLG, one of America’s leading behavioral management firms, where he specialized in helping complex organizations develop the behaviors needed to generate sustained long-term success.

From 1982 through 1987, George was a member of the Houston City Council, representing the more than 270,000 residents of District C. Following his tenure on council, George served as Controller for the City of Houston until 1995. As the City’s Charter-designated chief financial officer, George had oversight responsibility for an operating budget of $1.4 billion and a capital budget of $500 to $1 billion annually.  In addition to his public-sector work, George was a charter member of Rice University’s Jones Graduate School of Management.  During his nine years at the School, during which he became an Associate Professor, he was responsible for creating and leading innovative courses in the interplay among business, government, policy and politics.

An accomplished writer, George has co-authored two books – one on the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and another on contemporary issues regarding boards of directors – and is a published playwright.  In 1972, the Rockefeller Foundation, through its Playwrights for Tomorrow program, selected “Wilson,” his play with music, for production at the Miami Repertory Theatre.  “Wilson” was subsequently produced in 1974 at Houston’s Alley Theater.

 

 

Irma Diaz-Gonzalez

Irma Diaz-Gonzalez is President and CEO of Employment & Training Centers, Inc., a company founded in 1986 that provides human resource, business, education, and training solutions. Her community involvement includes serving as Chairman of the Board for the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the largest Hispanic Chamber in the State of Texas, Vice President of the Mexican Institute of Greater Houston, and Scholarship Chair of  Pan American Round Table.  She also serves on the Board of Trustees of the United Way of Greater Houston, the Memorial Hermann Hospital System Board, HISD’s Volunteers in Public Schools, the Center for Houston’s Future Scenario Building Team and the Governor’s Commission for Disaster Recovery and Renewal.

A native of Zaragoza, Mexico, Mrs. Diaz-Gonzalez began her professional career with the Illinois Migrant Council where she worked in various capacities while attending college and eventually became its Executive Director.  She moved to Houston in 1982 where she worked as Manager of the City of Houston's Youth Employment Program, an initiative that placed over 10,000 inner city young adults in jobs every year.

She has been honored for the work she has done in Illinois and in Texas by the Illinois Migrant Council, the Martin Luther King Center, the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Association of Hispanic School Administrators, Texas Executive Women, the National Museum of Mexican Art, the Pan American Round Table, Mexico’s Office of Foreign Affairs, Univision and others. Her company has also been named One of the Best Places to Work by the Houston Business Journal and has been named one of the Top 50 Family Owned Businesses in Houston.

 

 

Dr. Michael Williams

Dr. Michael P. Williams is a visionary leader, exemplary community advocate, academic innovator, gifted author and nationally recognized educator. He was elected to the Board of Trustees for Houston Community College in 1999. He has served the institution’s board in numerous capacities, including board chair twice, in 2005 and in 2010.

Williams is the Founding Pastor of Joy Tabernacle in Houston, which in 1999 became the first African-American church to relocate to the heart of Houston’s inner city for service and advocacy. He has also served as Senior Pastor for the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Houston and the East End Baptist Tabernacle Church in Bridgeport, CT. He has preached in 37 of the 50 states, three continents and in the Middle East. Williams also founded HOPE for Houston, Inc., a non-profit agency committed to serving at-risk young people and their families.

Williams earned his undergraduate degree from Westminster College; his Master of Divinity degree from Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut; and his Doctor of Ministry degree from Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas. Williams is the author of three books and his articles have been featured in professional and popular journals.

Dr. Williams has served as a professor at several universities, including the University of Houston. A commanding presence, he is a highly sought-after speaker for conferences and conventions and on college campuses across the nation. It is his dedication to the community and serving disenfranchised communities that have been hallmarks of his career. It is also part of the unique vision he has brought with him to HCC.

Ms. Campbell is an experienced speaker and workshop facilitator.

Prior to joining Catalyst, Ms. Campbell spent 14 years at HP, where she led cross-functional teams to create business strategies that drove business plans, organizational initiatives, and financial results. As a management consultant within HP specializing in business strategy, she envisioned and led the Business Case for Workforce Diversity, a complex project involving multiple divisions within HP. Ms. Campbell holds an M.Phil. in System Dynamics from the University of Bergen in Norway. She received her Bachelor’s in Computer and Information Sciences, with honors, from the University of California at Santa Cruz.

Elizabeth is an attorney and diversity practitioner with a successful record of working with business leaders, executives and teams to accomplish organizational goals. In her role as Partner and Chief Diversity Officer, she is responsible for the development and implementation of the diversity and inclusion components of the firm's strategic plan. She is a frequent speaker, training facilitator and author on the topic of diversity and inclusion and related employment law topics.

She works closely with the chairs of the firm’s Diversity Committee and the Women’s Initiative Team, and is a member of the Recruiting, Professional Development and Associates Committees. She also collaborates with the firm’s marketing professionals to drive marketing and branding strategies; the Community Relations partner to identify opportunities to support community-based endeavors that align with the firm's strategic goals; human resources professionals to develop human capital strategies for all employees; and accounting professionals on the firm's supplier/vendor diversity pursuits. During her career, Elizabeth has worked in the areas of administrative and employment law both in law firm and in-house counsel settings, and has led human resources, employment relations and diversity strategies at large corporations. Before joining Andrews Kurth in February 2007, Elizabeth served as Vice President of Employment Relations and Corporate Diversity Officer for ARAMARK Corporation in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Elizabeth received her J.D. from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and her B.A. from the American University in Washington, D.C.

 

 

Rick Carr

Rick Carr serves as the oil and gas Operations and Supply Chain Lead within the Energy and Resources Group at Deloitte Consulting.  He leads Deloitte Consulting’s practice area for excellence in oil and gas drilling, operations, maintenance, capital projects, contracting, procurement, and logistics.  Mr. Carr also serves as the Exploration and Production Champion across Deloitte functions to help drive synergies and solutions to the sector for our clients.

Mr. Carr has deep knowledge and experience in various supply chain and operational roles both in industry, for oil and gas and industrial companies, and in consulting.  This experience includes many years of leading and delivering operational improvements, business process reengineering, transformation, and cost management programs related to capital projects, drilling and operations, maintenance, procurement, and logistics.  He has led multiple global supply chain transformation initiatives for oil and gas companies including elements of strategy, process, and technology solutions.  

Mr. Carr has served oil and gas and industrial companies for almost 20 years.  Prior to working with Deloitte, he served as the Global Procurement Center of Excellence Lead for a Fortune 100 industrials company and prior to that Mr. Carr was a Partner in IBM’s Oil and Gas Practice where he had responsibility for Asset Management and Supply Chain for the Exploration and Production Sector.  He graduated from Pepperdine University with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and received a Master in Business Administration from Alaska Pacific University.

 

 

Wade D. Hutchings

Wade D. Hutchings is the manager for the Technical Excellence group in Marathon’s Upstream organization.  This role oversees many of the company’s programs for career development, knowledge sharing, and quality assurance for Upstream based engineers and geoscientists.  He assumed his current position in May of 2009.

Prior to this assignment, Mr. Hutchings was the planning manager for Worldwide Exploration, subsurface manager of the Gas Assets Team in the North America Production Operations group, team lead Angola Block 32 and team lead Gulf of Mexico Regional team, both in the Worldwide Exploration organization.  Mr. Hutchings joined Marathon in 2000 as a geologist in the Gulf of Mexico Exploration group.

Mr. Hutchings is a native of Utah and holds a bachelor’s degree in geology from Brigham Young University and a master’s in geology from The University of Texas at Austin.  He resides in Katy, Texas with his wife and four children, and is actively involved in youth sports, Boy Scouts, and church related activities.

 

 

Neddy Perez

Nereida (Neddy) Perez serves as National Grid’s Chief Diversity Officer, in that capacity she is responsible for the developing and guiding the company’s Diversity and Inclusion efforts. Neddy's background includes more than 19 years of experience in Human Resources, Diversity Management, Community Relations, and Internal Communications. 

Prior to joining National Grid, she lead diversity efforts at KPMG, external diversity relations at Sodexo and diversity efforts at  Shell Oil’s Global Solutions division.  She has worked in the UK, Netherlands, and Latin America.

Born in Havana, Cuba she realized at an early age the power of  education as a way to break through the glass ceiling and over come prejudice.  As a result, she has worked with a variety of non-profit organizations to support and create programs that empower people and remove organizational barriers.  Some of the organizations she has been involved with include:

His background includes an array of responsibilities with documented success in the areas of entrepreneurial development, turnaround management consulting, software development and implementation, and e-business creation.  Mr. Jones’ background also includes experience in financial management, sales management and strategic marketing. 

Mr. Jones defines an entrepreneur as “one who knows the outcome is up to him and wants it that way.”  This definition is proven through his consulting practice and through MYOBusiness, which offers a series of seminars and workshops designed for business owners to gain knowledge and practical techniques that can be applied to resolve critical business issues entrepreneurs face on a regular basis.

Leopoldo “Polo” Becerra is now the distinguished owner and CEO of the Post Oak Grill Restaurants.  From humble beginnings, he highlights the true definition of the “American dream”. His success is due to his hard work, tenacity, discipline and marvelous work ethic.  He overcame many obstacles to become first a celebrated chef, then a highly successful business owner, entrepreneur and icon in the community.

This is the passion of Chef Polo Becerra born in Puerto Vallarta in Jalisco Mexico.  Polo learned about the hospitality business in his hometown Puerto Vallarta where he worked as a dishwasher, waiter, captain waiter, cook, chef’s assistant and later as an Executive Chef.  He worked for prestigious hotels such as Camino Real and Fiesta Americana.  In 1990, he found his break and became one of the cooks of the most prominent restaurants in the Tanglewood area of Houston, The Post Oak Grill.  Polo’s loyalty to his customers and dedication to excellence in exemplary service at Post Oak Grill paid off.  He became a partner and worked his way through the entire operation until he had full ownership and was proficient in achieving his long time dream of owning a restaurant. Since then, Executive Chef Polo has maintained the Post Oak Grill as a distinctive destination for the perfect dining experience.

As an entrepreneur, Polo’s vision was to expand his company and has thus far by opening his newest concept of fine dining in “New American Cuisine”, Polo’s Signature, not far from West University. Vibhore “VJ” Jain has been involved in the distribution of educational books for over 10 years.  His business, Research Periodicals & Book Services, Inc. (RPBS), focuses on the sale and distribution of textbooks and reference books to various universities and institutions throughout the world.  RPBS’ operations spans over 40 countries throughout 4 continents, with a core focus in Sub-Saharan Africa and other developing countries.  Vibhore graduated in 2006 from The University of Houston.  While at The University of Houston, he studied at the Bauer School of Business and the Honors College, working towards an undergraduate degree in Business and concentrating in Entrepreneurship and Management.  He has advised The World Bank on educational issues and procurement policies for various projects and consulted numerous publishers in market assessments.  Furthermore, Vibhore has help spread the idea of entrepreneurship to students globally through his discussions with various business professors and university chancellors.  As a consequence of his work, Vibhore has traveled extensively throughout the world interacting and partnering with a multi-cultural and diverse range of people.

 

 

Lisa Reyna

Lisa Reyna is the President and CEO of the International Consulates, where she uses her 15 years of experience managing and developing international programs in public diplomacy to help Houston’s international community successfully transition and integrate into their new host environment.  Her company specializes in relocation services, ESL language training, admissions consulting and career development and training.  She has worked with the Department of State-Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the United Nations-University for Peace, Harvard School of Education, Saudi Basic Industries Corporation, University of Houston’s Language and Culture Center and has helped manage the ExxonMobil MENA and Russia Scholars Program, in addition to the King of Saudi Arabia’s KAUST Scholarship Program.

Lisa's education includes a B.A. from the University of Houston, M.Ed. from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, M.A. from the United Nations-University for Peace serving as a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar and awarded a prestigious fellowship to study at the American University of Beirut.  She completed her thesis on public diplomacy initiatives through academic and culture exchange as a tool to peace. Jason Few is President of Reliant Energy and Executive Vice President of NRG Energy.Few was named President of Reliant Energy in May 2009, after the Houston-based electricity retailer became part of NRG Energy. He joined the company in 2008 as Senior Vice President with responsibility for creating a new smart energy technology business. Shortly afterward he was given added responsibility for Reliant’s retail operations, including residential and small business sales. As President he has overseen the expansion of the company’s commercial and industrial business outside of Texas; the development of new business lines including smart energy solutions and additional retail brands; the initial deployment of NRG electric vehicle charging infrastructure; and he strengthened Reliant’s commitment to best-in-class customer service and community involvement. He came to the company from Motorola, Inc., where he held various senior leadership positions, including corporate vice president and general manager of Companion Products. Prior to joining Motorola, he led SBC Communications’ broadband and business development activities, among other senior roles.

Few serves on the board of the Greater Houston Partnership; he is a member of the executive committee and chairs the economic development committee. He also serves on the M.D. Anderson Cancer Foundation Board of Visitors and the boards of the Memorial Hermann Hospital System, the American Heart Association, Rebuilding Together Houston, Central Houston, the 2011 Houston Senior Games and the 2011 NCAA Houston Host Committee. He served on the Board of Syniverse Technologies (NYSE: SVR) until the company was successfully sold to the Carlyle Group. He earned a bachelor's degree in computer systems from Ohio University and a master's degree in business administration from Northwestern University’s J.L. John Sequeira

John Sequeira is currently a D&I Consultant within Royal Dutch Shell’s Global Diversity & Inclusion Consulting Practice. In this role he provides leadership and expertise as the most tenured professional in the group with colleagues in London, The Hague, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.   He provides strategic D&I consulting support to the Upstream Americas segment of Shell and functions as the global focal point for internal and external D&I communications and liaison to Shell’s Employee Network groups world- wide. 

During his nearly 35 years with Shell, he has held numerous Human Resources generalist and manager positions and specialist roles in training and organizational change across nearly every U.S. Shell business segment.  For the last fourteen years, he has specialized in Diversity & Inclusion and has held a variety of roles within the function as the governance for D&I has shifted from solely U.S. focused to global and adapted to changing business conditions. 

John holds a Bachelors degree in Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame with a concentration in Human Resources Management and has completed  Shell Management and Leadership Development Programs at the University of Houston and the Wharton School at University of Pennsylvania.  He is a graduate of the Diversity & Inclusion Practitioner Certification Program at the National Training Lab and was a charter member of the Diversity Best Practices Council, which is currently a subsidiary of Working Mother Media.  He served as Membership Chair to the Conference Board Diversity Council and functioned as Shell’s representative to the National Hispanic Corporate Council where he was elected to its Board of Directors.  He currently serves in a mentoring capacity to the NHCC/SMU Hispanic Leadership Development Program.

John has published numerous articles on the topic of Diversity and Inclusion for Profiles in Diversity Journal, and contributed commentary to other Diversity and Inclusion related research published by Conference Board, Catalyst, Diversity Best Practices and a case study on Shell’s global approach to Diversity and Inclusion produced by Harvard University. 

He has been supported by his wife Diane for the last thirty-three years and draws daily inspiration from his daughter Gina and his son, John-Michael.  

 

 

Richard Huebner

Richard A. Huebner is President of the Houston Minority Supplier Development Council, one of 37 affiliates of the National Minority Supplier Development Council.

In 1985, Huebner responded to a blind ad in the Wall Street Journal that provided a perfect match for his proven skills in association management and his passion for economic development.  Today he leads 221 major corporations and more than 1,000 Minority Business Enterprises in a common mission to increase and expand business opportunities and business growth for minorities.

Under his direction, the Houston Minority Supplier Development Council has been recognized five times nationally as Council of the Year and by the Greater Houston Partnership as Houston’s Greatest Non-Profit Business Organization.

Huebner serves on advisory boards of the U.S. Small Business Administration, Port of Houston Authority, Houston Community College, Unity National Bank, ACCION Texas and the NASA-Johnson Space Center Joint Leadership Team.  He is active in Grand Lakes Presbyterian Church, Chairman of Leadership Houston, graduate of the Center for Houston’s Future and a Senior Fellow of the American Leadership Forum. 

He has received numerous awards and recognitions, and was named to Best of the Decade in Supplier & Workforce Diversity by Minority Business News.

 

 

Dr. Jill Carroll

Scholar, Writer & Speaker

 

Dr. Jill Carroll is a Houston-based scholar, writer and speaker who specializes in world religions, religion and world politics, religion in public life, and applied life philosophy. She is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Religious Studies at Rice Univers ity, where she also directed the Boniuk Center for Religious Tolerance until June 2009. She is a recognized expert on issues of religious tolerance, philosophy of religion, American religion, and religion in public life. Her areas of specialty include: the role of religion in world politics, comparative world religions, trends in American religion, the impact of religious diversity in global business, and applied life philosophy.

Dr. Carroll earned her Ph.D. in Religious Studies from Rice University in 1994 with a specialty in philosophy of religion. She is the author of numerous articles and four books. A recent book, A Dialogue of Civilizations: Gulen’s Islamic Ideals and Humanistic Discourse was a Publishers Weekly bestseller in religion, having been in a “Top 10” category on Amazon in May 2007. She is a frequent guest on radio and television programs, and has been interviewed by The New York Times, PBS, MSNBC, and Good Morning America. She writes a featured blog called “Talking Tolerance” for the online religion section of the Houston Chronicle. She also writes a lifestyle blog called “Now That We’re Here.....”.

For two years, she co-produced and co-hosted with Kym King the popular radio program “Peaceful Coexistence” on Houston’s Pacifica station KPFT 90.1 FM. She is the creator and founding director of the Amazing Faiths Project, a national grassroots community initiative that fosters interpersonal relationships between people of all faiths and no faith through dialogue and table fellowship.

She has taught widely for many years in the Houston area, including at all campuses of the University of Houston system, Rice University, The Women’s Institute of Houston, The Jung Center of Houston, and in the Texas State prison system. She is a favorite for keynotes and public lectures because of her informative content as well as her inspiring and entertaining style.

Dr. Carroll was born in Shreveport, Louisiana. She lives with Nishta Mehra in Pearland, a suburb of Houston, Texas.

Omar Reid

Omar C. Reid is the Human Resources Director for the City of Houston and is responsible for all the financial and administrative activities of the department.  As the HR Director, he provides guidance and initiates policies for all city departments.  Mr. Reid’s focus and objectives in HR is to continue as a strategic partner with other city departments in managing the city’s workforce of over 22,000 employees.  Additional areas of responsibility are safety and risk management, citywide corporate training, worker’ compensation, and strategic planning. He has over twenty-four years of human resources and specialized management experience with a Fortune 100 United States Corporation.

Mr. Reid earned his Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from University of Houston and his Master Degree from Texas Southern University.  His expertise in leadership, team-building, problem solving, and communications have been demonstrated by his successful involvement in both business and community.    Mr. Reid has served as Vice President of Complete Personal Resurrection Group, an organization that developed leadership seminars to corporations and small businesses; Co-Chairman of the Economic Development Committee, National Black Master of Business Administration, Co-Chairman of Houston Black Leadership Conference; Coordinator of United Way Texas, representing United Parcel Services; District Coordinator, United Negro College Fund Walk-A-Thon; Media Spokesperson, UPS-Southeastern Region, and Chairman of the Board Fourth Ward Redevelopment Authority and Tax Reinvestment Zone.  Listed among his accomplishments, Mr. Reid is a published author of The Traffic of Life:  Characteristics of Effective Leadership.

Sue Moraska

Sue  Moraska has over 30 years experience as an educator and advocate for students with disabilities.  Her education includes a B.S. and M.Ed. She is the Department Chair of the Houston Community College-VAST and Occupational Life Skills Dept., which serves students with disabilities who have a broad-range of “abilities;” a program she created and has nurtured for over 20 years.  Sue’s passion and leadership has earned, HCC-VAST a title of national leader in the area of Post-Secondary Education for students with intellectual disabilities. Her hard work and passion for serving students with disabilities has resulted in numerous local, state and national awards such as, “Leadership Houston” and “The President’s-NFI Award” from the U.S. DOL/ODEP Office for furthering the employment and independent living goals of students with disabilities.  Most recently, HCC-VAST was awarded a $2.5 million DOE “TPSID Grant”, to expand its comprehensive transition programs, services and certificates that lead to employment and independence for students with intellectual disabilities.

During her 20 years as Chair of HCC-VAST, Sue has cultivated numerous community partnerships with local area high schools,  agencies, foundations and employers including:  Assistance League of Houston, Baxter Trust Foundation, Office of Homeland Security, Marathon Oil, TX Children’s Hospital, NASA, HISD, SPBISD, The Center, DARS, Workforce Solutions, University of St. Thomas to name a few. She continues to be invited to speak at local, state and national conferences, workshops, Career Fairs to educate and share best practices on topics relating to transition and employment for students with disabilities.

Sue believes in empowering her students to become leaders and self-advocates by actively, serving as Co-Advisor of the TX Advocates-“Lonestar -VAST Self-Advocates”( a partnership with The Arc of Greater Houston), and HCC-Eagles Club.  She continues to share her gift of teaching at St. Cryil’s Catholic church, where she’s been teaching Sunday School for 20 years. Sue received her B.S. in Special Education from Eastern Mich. Univ. and M.Ed. from Houston Baptist University.

 

 

Dennis O. May

Director, Federal Employment Coordination Service (retired)

Department of Veteran Affairs

 

Dennis O. May is the Director of the Veterans Employment Coordination Service, Office of Human Resources Management, Department of Veterans Affairs. He is responsible for implementing a recently-established service created to attract, recruit, and hire veterans within the Department, particularly severely injured veterans from Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. His team of nine Regional Veteran Employment Coordinators works collaboratively with over 160 local Veteran Employment Coordinators at HR offices nationwide to provide direct, hands-on employment assistance to our nation’s veterans.

Mr. May came to the VA after a successful Air Force career, where he retired in the grade of Colonel in 2007. He was commissioned in 1981 as a graduate of the Air Force ROTC program at the University of Arkansas, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration. He later earned a Master of Science degree in Public Administration from Central Michigan University.

While on active duty, Mr. May held a variety of key assignments in administration, manpower and personnel career fields. He served on the Air Staff, at Joint commands, and at Major Command levels. He also commanded the 17th Mission Support Squadron, Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas, which was twice named best mission support squadron in Air Education and Training Command. He served in the Pentagon as Director of the Headquarters Air Force Executive Secretariat as well as Chief of Personnel Issues for the Secretary of the Air Force’s Executive Issues Team.

Mr. May earned many awards and decorations to include: the Legion of Merit, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. He also earned “Best in the Air Force” recognition as Air Force Senior Personnel Manager of the year for 2000.

 

 

Cuc Vu

Cuc Vu provides the vision and strategy to help the Human Rights Campaign fulfill its stated commitment to diversity and inclusion.  The position is a first for an LGBT organization and sets an ambitious mark for HRC to unite the strength of its 750,000 members and supporters with people of all backgrounds to end discrimination and realize a nation that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.  Prior to HRC, Vu spent 10 years in the labor movement advocating for women, immigrants, and workers.  She co-founded Mi Familia Vota Education Fund and Civic Participation Campaign, two non-profit, non-partisan organizations working to increase the citizenship and voter participation rates of Latino legal permanent residents.  Born in Saigon, Viet Nam, Vu is a graduate of Pomona College and Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs.  Her story is part of the 1,000 Voices project. 

 

 

Deena Fidas

Deena Fidas consults directly with employers on the implementation of inclusive policies and benefits for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender employees. Fidas manages the Corporate Equality Index survey administration to more than 1,200 major U.S. employers and authors the Corporate Equality Index report. She led the Degrees of Equality published research on how to evaluate and improve the workplace climate for LGBT employees in large businesses. Fidas also develops teaching toolkits on LGBT work force diversity for employers. Prior to joining the Workplace Project staff in 2007, she worked in political fundraising. Fidas holds a master’s degree in sociology from American University in Washington, D.C.

Mary Boughton

Mary N. Boughton manages Catalyst’s Western Region office in Sunnyvale, California, and is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to build the organization’s presence in California, Texas, Washington, Oregon, and other Western states. She recruits, develops, and supports Catalyst member organizations in the area by making them aware of Catalyst resources, such as the information available to members on the Catalyst website, and by organizing and conducting events on topics related to Catalyst research, such as women in leadership, women’s contributions to corporate financial performance, workplace challenges for women of color, and work-life effectiveness.

Ms. Boughton spent 14 years in sales at the former CompuServe Network Services, Inc. (now part of Verizon), rising from Account Representative to Area Manager for the Western Region of the United States. She then joined the consultancy, Accenture, where she focused on researching and presenting opportunities for new client engagements. In 2002, Ms. Boughton elected to bring her passion, corporate experience, and business skills to nonprofit management. Prior to joining Catalyst in 2008, she served as Executive Director for Career Closet in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties, an organization that assists women returning to the workforce, and for the former Peninsula Habitat for Humanity (now Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco), an independent affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. Ms. Boughton holds a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from Santa Clara University.

Grace Chi works as a financial analyst in BP’s North America Gas Region in the Planning, Performance Management team providing financial support for Procurement & Supply Chain Management (PSCM) function. 

Grace is part of BP’s Finance Challenge Program.  She is also co-lead for BP’s Asian Network in Houston (BPANH)

Grace graduated from Florida State University with two Bachelor of Science degrees and three majors – Finance, Real Estate, and Risk Management/Insurance. She is working on her CRM (Certified Risk Manager) designation from the National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research. 

Grace is a native of Shanghai, China.  She has studied abroad in Japan and France on various scholarships.  She now lives in northwest Houston with her miniature schnauzer, Cooley.  She volunteered as an AARP tax counselor to file federal tax returns for senior citizens.

 

 

John Nguyen

John C. Nguyen, Ph.D. has over 19 years of experience in the Energy Sector.  During his ten years with Shell John has worked as an electrical, reliability, process safety management, and control systems engineer.  In his previous role John was the Regional Head of Technical Training for The Americas.  In this role he was able to transform an ailing business to a profit center.   Presently John is the Service Manager for Upstream America with Shell Global Solutions Upstream in Projects and Technology business group.  In this role John oversee a $33 million portfolio which includes Deepwater Exploration, Onshore Gas, LNG, Wind Energy and Midstream Gas business.  His stakeholders are Shell cost sharers, JVs and NOVs in the Americas region.  

In his latest accomplishment John was selected from a nationwide search to be featured in Discover Your Inner Strength. The book features best-selling authors Stephen R. Dr. Richard Lee

Dr. Richard Lee is an assistant professor and the Medical Director of the Integrative Medicine Program at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.

He is a graduate of George Washington University School of Medicine and completed his internal medicine residency at Stanford University School of Medicine.  He went on to complete fellowships in clinical medical ethics, hematology/oncology, and palliative medicine at the University of Chicago and Northwestern University.  Additionally, he obtained further training in Traditional Chinese Medicine in Taiwan through a Fulbright Scholarship, with an emphasis on acupuncture.

Dr. Lee's clinical practice and research centers on improving integrative oncology approaches for cancer patients.

 

 

Y. Vani Rao

Vani Rao is a Continuous Improvement Advisor for BP’s Gulf of Mexico (GoM) strategic performance unit (SPU), supporting the implementation of Continuous Improvement (CI) through training coordination, performance management and communications.

In 2006, after several years as a consultant to BP, Vani joined the GoM Projects & Engineering team as the MoC Process Technical Authority. Her responsibilities included providing oversight for the Management of Change (MoC) process, developing SPU performance reporting and coordinating internal and external MoC audits.

She is also one of the co-leads for BP’s Asian Network in Houston (BPANH), whose vision is to promote an environment where Asian employees are valued for their contributions, cultural richness, and are equitably respected at all levels of the organization.

Vani received her Bachelors degree in Psychology from Austin College and MBA from Columbia University. She is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP). Before joining BP, she worked as a project management consultant.

Vani lives in northwest Houston with her husband, Thulasidass. She enjoys traveling, especially since her family is spread across the globe in India, Singapore and Texas. She is also actively involved with charitable organizations in Houston and India. She spends what little time she has left making jewelry and watching football.

M. Helen Cavazos is a human resources and diversity executive with extensive background in a variety of industries to include retail, insurance, financial services, oil and media.  She has a proven track record of success with increasing responsibilities in human resources management, diversity training and leadership development.

Recently named as Vice President, Chief Diversity Officer for METRO, Helen reports directly to the President/CEO, with responsibilities to lead the development and implementation of diversity and inclusion strategies aligned with METRO’s key business strategies.  She will lead the integration of Diversity in all aspects of the organization’s key initiatives and work across departmental boundaries to continue to maintain the organization’s diverse and inclusive work environment.  

Prior to joining METRO, she had an independent human resources consulting and executive search firm, where she parlayed her experience and expertise she learned working for McDonald’s Corporation starting in Houston and then to the Corporate Headquarters in the Chicago area, via Hawaii, in Human Resources and Diversity Development.

Helen has served on numerous boards and committees of organizations that foster developmental and economic opportunities for diverse groups and currently serves on the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Board, the Texas Diversity Council, is on the Human Resources Committee of the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council and was past president of Hispanic Women in Leadership.  She is a member of Texas Executive Women and the National Association of Female Executives and throughout her career has received numerous awards and recognition for her leadership and diversity initiatives.
